OK, I admit it.

I watch Glenn Beck.

I'm not happy about the direction this country is taking.

But, Glenn Beck isn't who I put my faith in.

Neither do I put my faith in this country or the political system that I've grown up in.

I put my faith in our Sovereign God.

It's His plan.

I must trust Him.

He created you.

He create me.

Look around you.

He created it all.

He created it all and it exists for one purpose.

It's a pupose that He understands, because before any of it happens, He knows.

He hardens men's hearts, but He also softens them.

He has compassion upon whom He will have compassion.

Though He slay me yet willl I trust Him.

If our entire society explodes tomorrow and those who call Christ their Savior are ridiculed or even persecuted for their beliefs, do not relent.

We in Ameriaca have a really bad sense of history.  We forget that those who have served Christ throughout the centuries have been persecuted for their faith.

We forget that one of the biggest questions that faced the early church was what to do with those who denied Christ and offered sacrifices to Ceasar as a god.

Our God is a compassionate God, but Jesus told us very clearly that if we deny  Him before men He will deny us before God.

The men and women who sacrificed to Ceasar forgot this.

Perhaps they never had the saving faith that keeps the faithful from denying their Creator.

Perhaps they were young in their faith.

We will never know.

But we must not follow the example of those who relented, who gave up the faith in the face of death and valued life more than eternal life.

Rather, we must follow the example of those who didn't.

If we have saving faith.

If we are truly certain of God's existence and cling to His promises then we must follow those men who have not relented and who have proclaimed with certainty their faith in God's ability to grant eternal life to those whom He has chosen.

Will you trust this fleeting world?

Will you trust the promises of safety and security that the world offers?

Because if you trust it...

If you trust men and the world then when the world ends, when goverments fail, when the world comes against you, you will chose wrongly.

I cannot offer hope to you.

Only God can.

Seek His strength.

Pray that He will give you true faith, faith that will help you to pass gracefully from that moment when you are here, to that moment when you are elsewhere.

He will hold your hand and help you across that divide if you are one of His sheep. And if you are not one of His sheep then no amount of pleading can change His mind or His plan.

If you are His, He will provide your every need until that moment when He deems that your needs are taking priority over Him.

Hold on to Him.

Trust Him.

Love Him.

Know that if you are truly His that He loves you so much that He gave His Son as the payment for your sins in order that you might have eternal life.

Governments may fail.

Worlds will disappear.

But God, unchanging, unchangable, outside of everything that we know and understand, is there for you.

Never forget that.

Rest in that.

If you find yourself sitting in the ashes scrapping yourself with a potshard, do not doubt that He has provided your salvation.

Your're safe.

You're better than safe.

You are loved by your Creator.

Love Him back.

And may Your Lord provide you with that peace that surpasses all understanding and the certainty that no one who He has put into His Son's hand were ever lost, save the son of perdition whose fate it was to betray the Son of God.

God bless you in these perilous times.

My brother in Christ, Jordan Hall from Sydney commented on my blatant complaining about the Across Montana 2010 campaign.

As I was driving to church this morning, praying about the need for unity with even those who do not seem to reverance God's sovereignty to the same degree that others of us do a reasonable resolution came to mind.

It is not the cry for prayer that aggravates me.

It is not the plea to share the Gospel with the lost, we do that every day.

The problem is the belief that God will act according to our timetable.

Additionally, there is the underlying idea that on that final Sunday our evangelical work will be done.

Only God will bring people into our churches, but we do need to pray desperately for them and bring the Gospel to them.

We are inviting people to church every Sunday.

We are praying every day.

We will join our brothers and sisters in Christ in their depserate prayers for our unsaved neighbors and friends.

We have been there LONG before it was ever announced.

And we will continue to pray for God to act LONG after Across Montana 2010 is over.

We won't video tape it, because we do not seek glory.

We won't program it because that is not how God works.

We will not try to fit God into our timeline, or make Him adhere to our agenda. Not because we don't want to be disappointed, but because we know that our God is far bigger than we can ever understand.

On a single day, Pentecost day as a matter of fact, God saved 3000.

Can there be any doubt that He is able to accomplish whatever He wills?

I'm sorry if I offended anyone with my previous blog entry, it's just that God has spent the last six and 1/2 years helping me to unlearn all of the useless, man centered, Finney based, useless ideas about what being a Christian is and isn't.

1 God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.

2 Therefore we will not fear,
Even though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

3 Though its waters roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah

4 There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God,
The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.

5 God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved;
God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.

6 The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved;
He uttered His voice, the earth melted.

7 The LORD of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah

8 Come, behold the works of the LORD,
Who has made desolations in the earth.

9 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;
He burns the chariot in the fire.

10 Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!

11 The LORD of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah

This is the God we serve.

Praise, honor and glory to Him alone belong.

While I love my brothers in Christ in the Montana Baptist Association, I am apalled at the insistence on using the things of this world to try to "help" God.  The current Across Montana 2010 campaign is just the latest example in their attempts to "help" God in His "efforts" to save our fellow Montanans.

The entire campaign will culminate in a single Sunday when WE (not God) will fill our churches with lost people who will beg to be saved from their trespasses and sins.

Of course Fred Hewitt, the Montana Southern Baptist Convention and those pastors who had the "vision" to participate in this phenomenal marketing campaign will receive the glory.

And there is the problem, isn't it?

You see God will not be mocked.

He needs no help.

He needs no three color brochures, planned marketing and demographic studies.

He saves men every day in countries where it is illegal to even mention the Gospel by directly revealing Himself to men and women.

If God has not ordained Across Montana 2010 then I can state with absolute certainty it will fail.

We cannot pedal the Gospel for our own gain, even if that gain is in the form of pride or importance.

Every time that we employ the mechanisms of the world to share the Gospel we reduce it to one of a thousand other marketing campaigns.

The only marketing campaign that God needs is the obedience of His humble servants, tirelessly serving Him, glorifying Him and doing what He commands.

I urge you to reevaluate your understanding of God's sovereignty, His omnipotence, His omniscience, and His omnipresence.

God will have mercy upon whom He will have mercy, compassion upon whom He will have compassion.

Seek God's will and forsake your own plans, for God's ways are higher than our ways.

Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us,
But to Your name give glory, Because of Your mercy, Because of Your truth.
Psalm 115:1

The Feableness of our Efforts PDF Print E-mail

I just got done reading our state association's newspaper. While there were wonderful stories about what men were doing, that is where it stopped. It's as though, being churchy, "god people," is enough so whatever we do must be blessed.

"Don't worry God...we've got it from here!"

This is the fundamental error of our era. We have a form of godliness....but without power.

Why else would we get excited about remodeling and painting a church building that was at one time thriving, but which has sat empty for the last 14 months? The title of the the article which was the front page MAIN article, was "Strategy: Multiplication." I missed the point of the article. Because once you got past the title there was nothing there that was glorifying of God or which smacked of the "strategy."

I've been preaching from Esther for the last few weeks.  If you want to see the sermons, they're available in the sermon area.  Esther is an interesting book.  It is the only book of the Bible which does not explictly  mention God.  The remarkable thing about this is that God's intervention is so obvious throughout the book that the failure to mention that it is God who is doing all of these things becomes blatant.
