While I love my brothers in Christ in the Montana Baptist Association, I am apalled at the insistence on using the things of this world to try to "help" God. The current Across Montana 2010 campaign is just the latest example in their attempts to "help" God in His "efforts" to save our fellow Montanans.
The entire campaign will culminate in a single Sunday when WE (not God) will fill our churches with lost people who will beg to be saved from their trespasses and sins.
Of course Fred Hewitt, the Montana Southern Baptist Convention and those pastors who had the "vision" to participate in this phenomenal marketing campaign will receive the glory.
And there is the problem, isn't it?
You see God will not be mocked.
He needs no help.
He needs no three color brochures, planned marketing and demographic studies.
He saves men every day in countries where it is illegal to even mention the Gospel by directly revealing Himself to men and women.
If God has not ordained Across Montana 2010 then I can state with absolute certainty it will fail.
We cannot pedal the Gospel for our own gain, even if that gain is in the form of pride or importance.
Every time that we employ the mechanisms of the world to share the Gospel we reduce it to one of a thousand other marketing campaigns.
The only marketing campaign that God needs is the obedience of His humble servants, tirelessly serving Him, glorifying Him and doing what He commands.
I urge you to reevaluate your understanding of God's sovereignty, His omnipotence, His omniscience, and His omnipresence.
God will have mercy upon whom He will have mercy, compassion upon whom He will have compassion.
Seek God's will and forsake your own plans, for God's ways are higher than our ways.
Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us,
